Goal

Change the serial number on an i6000 tape library. 

Steps

  1. Login to MCB as root
  2. Copy `/etc/serialnum` to `/etc/serialnum.orig`
    1. Optional but highly recommended
  3. Edit `/etc/serialnum`
    1. Change to the desired number
      1. The original serial can be found on a label on the back of the library if needed. 
  4. Reboot entire tape library
  5. If a USB Drive is in use for database backups
    1. Follow this post as the USB drive will have backups under the old serial number
  6. If you get an error in the problems list about the serial number changing
    1. Close the service ticket
